The team would go on to lose 4-0 to Brazil, but pick themselves up to win their next match against South Africa. In tribute, Rodrigo's teammates carried with them a painting of his image as they entered the pitch for their opening match against Egypt. The minute's silence was followed by a minute of applause to celebrate the 230 street children who did make it to Rio De Janeiro. Vidigal is said to be one of Brazil's most successful "pacified" favelas. Testament to such claims is the rising number of foreigners who live there. The El Salvador girls' team enjoyed some refreshing passion fruit flavoured ice-poles, while Team USA girls posed for photos next to the murals. Vidigal has grown in popularity since its pacification and is now a genuine option for foreign travellers visiting Rio during the World Cup. Players from the US and UK played a friendly match on the astroturf pitch against Nicaragua and El Salvador, while the others -- girls from the Philippines, Mozambique and Zimbabwe -- helped paint a mural and learnt how to dance and play music Brazilian-style.
